Only 10% responded. EVER!
About 5 years ago, I created a test project, to find out how local agents were doing in terms of responding to email requests from MLS.ca, the national real estate site.
I created an email account that couldn’t be traced to me, and requested further information from 130 agents about properties they had listed on the MLS. I was not prepared for the response!
With a deafening roar of silence, they didn’t respond!
I got 2 auto-responses the first day, and over the next week I received some generic emails and a couple of incredibly aggressive emails telling me that they’d give me more information when we viewed the property. I was gobsmacked!
I never did hear back from the other 116 agents!
I probably shouldn’t have been surprised, because I am so totally used to returning a call from an ad and having the person thank me profusely for calling them back because they called 9 or 10 other agents and no-one else called them back! What I noticed with these types of calls was that I could be calling a couple of days later, and still be the only agent to call them back!
Huh?
Yes, the numbers say that 48% of agents NEVER return calls or follow-up with prospects. 48%!!!
How wild is that?
Do YOU return calls? Really? Always?
As to those email inquiries, not much has changed; I repeat my experiment annually, and this years test resulted in an 18% response rate! I’m looking for a new place to call home, and I have emailed several agents asking for more information and have not heard back from one of them.
I think I’ll go email them right now and order a Double Whopper with Cheese, a Large Fries and a Strawberry shake! I’m pretty sure they’ll respond to this request!
